Workplace stress levels have significantly increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with many employees reporting increased anxiety and burnout (Soelton et al., 2020). Businesses may need to take extra measures to support workers’ well-being, such as providing remote work options, mental health resources, and a focus on openness and communication.

A counterargument to this claim is that stress, in moderation, can serve as a motivating force. Excessive stress can cause burnout and harm employee well-being and organizational performance. Employees may experience a variety of detrimental effects from workplace stress. Physical, emotional, and psychological effects are all possible. Stress can manifest physically as headaches, exhaustion, and a weakened immune system. Feelings of anxiety, irritability, and depression can be emotional symptoms. Stress can cause cognitive issues like memory loss and attention issues, which are psychological symptoms of stress.
