Over the years, diabetes has become a significant concern that is still important today. To combat this worldwide epidemic, investment in efficient diabetes prevention and control is now required. Numerous nations have witnessed dietary shifts encouraging higher calorie intake, industrialization, and economic growth (Wang & Hu, 2018). However, a poor diet has long been thought to have a significant role in the development of diabetes. A considerable number of data appeared a couple of years ago. Therefore, the paper aims to identify how nutrition affects type 2 diabetes treatment and prevention.
It is crucial to deliver an important message to the patient about nutrition’s role in diabetes prevention. From the perspective of the nurse practitioner, there is a certain responsibility to educate the people on the methods that will help to avoid the appearance of the condition. I would explain how eating habits affect health and provide certain examples. The first aspect to explain is that unhealthy food options are available, and more people are eating unhealthily high-calorie diets with huge portion sizes, carbs, sugary drinks, and harmful fats, significantly increasing the risk of diabetes (Wang & Hu, 2018). Then, I would focus more on the positive side of the healthy diet and provide the patient with the menu and recipes of healthy meals consisting of grains, vegetables, and vitamins as an alternative to detrimental food (Wang & Hu, 2018). A detailed explanation of the use of nutrition with the suggested examples will help guide the individual toward the right path.
Overall, on a broad scale, the widespread of type 2 diabetes has been linked to certain societal changes, such as shifts in employment patterns from physically demanding to sedentary jobs, increasing computerization and automation, and better transportation. However, with a conscious attitude towards nutrition, people have an opportunity to prevent the disease in the long run. Therefore, as a nursing practitioner, it is important to educate the patient through examples and highlight the reasons to care about nutrition.
