Timberland: A Cultural Work From Everyday Life
Cultural universals are those basic meanings and certificates that can be found in every culture worldwide. To consider the cultural universal, a brand such as Timberland, which mainly produces boots, was chosen. This brand represents the idea of caring for all people, regardless of their class. The appearance of such a brand shows both the difficult natural conditions that people had to deal with and that the top of society thinks about ordinary workers. It is noteworthy that the brand did not remain in the past but adapted to the requirements of society. Currently, this popular brand produces comfortable and versatile shoes that suit most buyers. This may indicate that the public culture has formed the attitude to choose convenient and practical things. Timberland became popular due to the peculiarities of the culture in which it appeared: the value of each person and the importance of personal comfort.
First, boots were intended for workers, which speaks of a certain culture. At the time of the introduction of boots in the 70s of the last century, the working class dominated American culture (About Us, n.d.). The countryside was famous for its harsh climate, where many loggers worked, and workers generally lived. In light of this, the company had a goal – to learn how to produce durable waterproof boots that can withstand changeable weather and extreme operating conditions. If I consider the company’s production along with my convictions, then my personal opinion is positive. First, the company’s original goal is to provide workers with safety shoes. This concern for people who have demanding work says a lot about creators. Moreover, the company took into account the rugged terrain, which also positively affects the opinion about the brand. Thus, the paramount value for me is the respectful attitude of the organization to the surrounding.
