The United States Coast Guard’s Organizational Culture

Organizational culture in any given company is seen as a unifying factor of all its principles, actions, policies, history, traditions, values, mission, and vision. If properly executed, organizational culture directs the company’s team towards the best decisions. reduces morale among employees and therefore increases risks. The United States Coast Guard is not unique as it has a well-structured organizational structure, whose development has restricted its efficiency in various scopes.

The United States Coast Guard has a hierarchy culture that is more process-oriented. Recently, the United States Coast Guard has been gearing its efforts and resources towards developing a culture of accountability, equity, justice, and inclusion (Ziegler et al., 2021). The company is contemplating reforming its organizational culture and achieving a clan culture, which is people-oriented, in order to have an efficient workforce in the future. The United States Coast Guard looks forward to having a future workforce that can acquire new skills and have vast technological fluency (Ziegler et al., 2021). The company’s organizational culture, which entails its shared beliefs and values, is constantly manifested through its personnel, who assume a crucial role in creating a workspace for transforming skills into actions.

Business managers should be concerned with organizational culture because it helps in lowering turnover. Employees are likely to remain in positions where they are highly respected and valued (Ziegler et al., 2021). Organizational culture is also vital for increasing productivity, creating a solid brand identity, and enhancing employee engagement. Coast Guard focuses on creating an organizational climate that allows everyone to exercise their diverse views, backgrounds, and experiences (Ziegler et al., 2021). The company tries to eradicate bullying and harassment as such incidents contravene Coast Guard’s devotion, honor, respect, and duty.

As seen above, organizational culture plays a significant role in increasing productivity, creating a solid brand identity, and enhancing employee engagement. The United States Coast Guard is contemplating reforming its organizational culture and achieving a clan culture, which is people-oriented, in order to have an efficient workforce in the future. Similar to The United States Coast Guard, companies should focus on structuring their organizational cultures to enjoy employee retention, among other benefits.
