Running and Its Impact on Human Health

It is well known that running is an important activity that positively affects human health. Running improves the general physical condition of people by training the cardio system and muscles. Moreover, running has a positive effect on the mental health of the individual due to the release of the hormone of happiness. However, despite all the positive aspects of running, sometimes it can cause harm. Thus, it is vital to figure out exactly what kind of threat can be.

Since ancient times, people have been involved in sports, taking part in the Olympic Games and other competitions. In ancient Rome, running was very popular and associated with life (Ramin 4). Moreover, the sport was also important in the military aspect, when there was no transport in ancient times. Often an individual had to overcome a long distance on feet quickly. Thus, the importance of running was not only in the positive impact on health but in the strategic aspect as well. However, the main reason for the importance of sports and running lies in its impact on the human body.

The main feature of running is its effect on the human cardiovascular system. Due to the intense load, the heart muscle contracts, which leads to its training; thus, the muscle’s fiber becomes stronger, promoting its longer service. Moreover, while running, myokines and other elements are released, contributing to better health and a stronger body (Ramin 26). In addition, during the run, there is a load not only on the muscles of the legs but also on the back and the abs. Due to this, there is effective training of many parts of the body.

Further, as already indicated, running strengthens the muscles of the back, which leads to an improvement in the corset department. The corset department is responsible for the posture of a person, which is an essential factor in everyday life. Good posture is beneficial not only for physical health, as it leads to a normal outflow of blood and a pleasant aesthetic look. In addition, a straight posture helps one be more self-confident, as an individual becomes a few inches taller. A person with a straight posture is perceived more seriously and has a more attractive appearance. Thus, running has a positive impact on the remote aspects of sport in daily life.

Besides, running has a positive effect on the mental health of a person due to the effect on hormonal processes. While interacting with pets, some hormones of happiness are released (Koivusilta and Ojanlatva). While running, the human body releases the hormone of joy, namely endorphin. Moreover, this effect persists not only during training but also for a long time after it. Running helps to make a person less irritable and get rid of insomnia. This is formulated by hormonal processes and intense stress, which leads to fatigue and a desire to rest. Often people who have insomnia may get a simple solution to the problem because they have a sedentary lifestyle. It is necessary to make a load on the human body, which will help restore the balance of rest and charge.

The impact of running on the human brain, namely the subconscious process, is interesting to mention. While running, a person, without noticing it, begins to think about the problems that concern one and sometimes subconsciously can come to a solution. Further, running leads to the appearance of new neurons, but if they are not used for a long time, they die. Thus, running in combination with brain activity after training leads to effective training of the body and the brain. In addition, a person subconsciously receives moral satisfaction from running by overdoing himself, laziness, and fatigue.

However, in some cases, running can harm a person by aggravating an existing disease. These may include muscle diseases or problems with bones provoked by some illnesses. Moreover, running is not recommended in cases where an individual needs additional strength to fight some chronic diseases. Additionally, it is important to remember that running is strictly contraindicated in case of problems with the spine. The main danger is that a person may not be aware of the problems mentioned above and start running. It will lead to negative consequences since an intense load may provoke displacement of the vertebrae in case of injury. That is why it is vital first to be examined for the presence of any cytopathological diseases and only after that start running.

To conclude, running is an essential positive aspect of human health; however, it may as well pose some threat. It has a positive effect on both the physical and mental health of a person. Running leads to the training of the cardiovascular system and also strengthens the heart muscle. It leads to the release of endorphins and helps cope with irritability and insomnia. However, before starting to run, one must undergo an examination, as it is contraindicated in some cases.
