Grenade Company’s Leadership and Management

Leadership and management are, at first glance, similar concepts, but they are also diverse. An effective leader creates an inspiring vision for the future and sets the strategic direction. He empowers employees, motivates and energizes them for work. Management is even broader than leadership in its scope of actions. Managers plan, give orders, organize work, measure performance, and control people and processes. While a leader deals mostly with behavioral aspects, a manager copes additionally with non-behavioral (Grenade, 2010). The management team’s role in a Grenade is very high because it determines the efficiency of production and the quality of the development strategy. That is why managers have to perform job duties and have leadership qualities.

McGregor’s theory XY explains two management styles – authoritarian (theory X) and participative (theory Y). That is, it can be noticed that managers usually use theory X. This is due to the fact that authoritarian management and constant checking of processes are applied. Leaders apply theory Y when there is trust in the team (Grenade, 2010). When practicing this theory, leaders motivate workers, which ensures that tasks are completed efficiently.

The team’s management style is democratic because it implies the involvement of all employees in work. Each member has the right to express their opinion and to be heard. It is impossible to attribute the organizational culture to a single type as it includes many elements. It can be characterized as clan, people-oriented, and market-oriented because it follows a responsive and result-driven strategy. It is significant to note that Grenade successfully uses employee motivation, which allows them to work as a team (Grenade, 2010). In addition, they try to follow the theory presented by Adair. In other words, Grenade applies the theory of action- and results-oriented leadership, so they clearly define goals and objectives for co-workers. As a result, the team’s assignments are always divided in such a way that employees perform them efficiently and remain satisfied. With regard to the 7C model, it can be concluded that it has been dodged in the company. There is an emphasis on the importance of the human factor in development, and all other elements are connected and meet the principles of softness and rigidity.
