My first encounter with Gina Brillon was through television in one of the stand-up shows. Brillon acted comedy and entertained her fans through her impeccable talent. She was such a unique comedian in that era because she quickly rose to fame in a competitive platform such as media. Moreover, being of female figure it was hard to believe how Gina managed to develop her skills in a male-dominated sector like media.
Gina inspired young journalists and comedians to stretch their limits as she had set the bar high. After developing an interest in her comedies, I read much about her life. Gina’s rise to fame accorded her respect and honor among her peers. She impressed me with her achievement as at the age of 17, she had already started her career as a standup comedian on TV shows. At the time I learned about Gina, female figures, were believed to be low achievers who were victims of male chauvinism. She redefined the negative ideologies and proved that women had equal chances just as their male counterparts. I developed an amicable impression the first time I came across her from the charming look on her face.
The experience from an encounter with Gina was a positive one since it acted as an eye-opener. I admired the zeal and emphasis she had on her comedy and other TV shows. Her concerted efforts were acknowledged in 2012 as the winner of NBC’s stand up for Diversity contest. She has equally raised awareness through campaigns encouraging women to rise against male chauvinism. Currently, Gina is an icon of justice who continues to inspire many people. In 2020, movies about Brillons’ childhood and harmonizing the gap between cultures are sold on Amazon at its Prime. The encounter was positive since it changed my views towards other cultures, it was important because I developed objective reasoning towards a culture that is different from mine in which women fight for their chances in society and are respected.
